This month Le Clash des Images enters the world of the New York based photographer Elena Kuznetsova.
Elena’s portfolio is the kind of work which you have to look deep into in order to find something that could disclose a small flaw, a tiny imperfection. Because the whole photographer’s set displays a great mastery and a lot of talent. She has this profund intuition of people, and brings to life every portrait she captures. But today, we are obsessed with her vision of New York. It appears like Balthasar Burkhard photographs, completed by a Fellinian atmosphere: urban blocks where lines create spaces, sliced between light and shade.

We could almost hear the city noises and feel the life running from the streets. Wether through fashion sophistication or through New York vastness, her eyes and camera reach the aim. It almost reaches something that no one could see before – emotion of the moment is always there, and she seems to create it above and beyond the city. We don’t know if she brings out this serenity from herself. But the few pictures she chose for The Cherryship tell us everything. “Beauty is something that effects not just our eyes, but our minds, and our hearts”, said Elena to the tiphf website.
Elena was born in Ukraine, and her sensibility surely goes with her experience of the fashion set – first as a model and hair stylist, before she entered into the photographers’ community.

Ce mois-ci, “le clash des images” invite la photographe de mode Elena Kuznetsova, basée à New York.
Le portfolio d’Elena, c’est le genre d’oeuvre que l’on doit fouiller de fond en comble avant que de trouver une minuscule faille. Car si le travail est propre et la technique irréprochable, ce sont les intuitions photographiques de la jeune femme qui intriguent. Au-delà des traits, Elena semble capturer les âmes, et ce indépendamment du style. Aujourd’hui, nous avons examiné sa vision de New York, et nous sommes sans voix.
Du fashion au paysage, Elena semble nous raconter une histoire. D’un seul cliché, elle nous arrache à la réalité de la ville pour nous réimplanter dans un univers de silence et de contrastes. Son travail sur la cité new yorkaise n’est sans rappeler la vues urbaines aériennes de Balthasar Burkhard. Elena, cependant, surpique le tout d’une touche d’atmosphère fellinienne pour rendre à la mégalopole une certaine douceur à dimension humaine.
Ses photographies les plus osées ne se départissent pas d’une sérénité et d’une émotion amenées presque malgré les modèles. Cela proviendrait-il de son passé de mannequin? De ses origines, elle qui vient d’Ukraine et qui a travaillé longtemps en Suisse? Ou d’une quête absolue de beauté? Comme le relève le site tiphf, Elena s’est exprimée en ces mots: “Beauty is something that effects not just our eyes, but our minds, and our hearts”.
